Heard about this on Go Fact Yourself decided to give a look see. Right off the bat - emo and math rock? Yes please. But i've been a big Chad Clark fan for 20+ years so I'm always glad for Beauty Pill to get exposure. Btw, if you want old music for news check out his old band Smart Went Crazy. Love a good rock band with cello.

Happy to have you onboard! And yeah, chad’s amazing. It’s crazy that I only found out about beauty pill a couple years ago, given that I was a huge Dismemberment Plan fan, as well as other bands he produced/mixed. But better late than never!

I don't have enough music-smarts to share post-worthy opinions on the selections this week (or any week!), but I had to say thanks so much for this week's bullshit and you can consider your memories (very) effectively shared.

CF, you nailed it again. Please dont stop. Peter Gabriel put on such a mystical concert in Calgary circa 1993 it ranks #1 for emotion. He opened up talents to me from all over the world that I would never have known. Keep sharing the music and heart.

Aaand I’m sharing this again because I don’t think you appreciated it sufficiently the first time. 😉 https://music.apple.com/us/album/summer-nights/1620598855?i=1620599029

I enjoy her, but her stuff doesn't set me on fire, for whatever reason. It sounds like so much stuff I love, but... Who knows why some things click and some don't?

On the subject of Peter Gabriel and other artists... I have one for your consideration. Sometimes songs that have similar musical elements and “energies”, for lack of a better (and less touchy-feely) word, get paired together in my mind. In the case of Peter Gabriel it’s San Jacinto and Deep Sea Diver by Bat For Lashes. They’re like musical sisters to me.

Yeah, I had kind or forgotten about that song. It's great. I also hear a ton of PG influence in "The Hunger", especially when the bass really kicks in at 1:45.

And for people like me who obsess over the subtleties in how music is produced, note how the piano line in Deep Sea Diver morphs into a steel drum sound around the 4:30 mark. Who knows why that choice was made, but those little musical Easter eggs always make me smile.

It's great that it pops up for a couple seconds and then disappears.

Finnegan, you done did it again! Once I clicked on your link to Once, I immediately went back down a rabbit-hole of clips from that guy's follow-up film, Begin Again, which somehow still gives me the feels after all these years. So thank you for that.

I love that. Thanks, Sean! Yeah, John Carney (that director) has a real sense of "feels". Sometimes to a fault. Much like Cameron Crowe, when he leans on it too hard, it gets schmaltzy. But those moments when he nails it? Hoo boy...
