I haven't listened to a new of Montreal album in quite some time but I'll definitely check this one out, thanks. But as an Old, I do miss the pre-electronic psych-pop.
Sorry I missed this comment! Agreed on all fronts--I'd love a return to the Elephant 6 era. But I understand the financial incentive for someone like Barnes to go the electronic route.
Brilliantly written as always. I haven’t even gotten to listen to the music yet. This shite is just a great read and I love the pics. Seeing a horse buggy parked at a Walmart in Lancaster, PA had me baffled but the selfie, that’s some new new!
I'm sorry I never tried to foist The 1975 on you. Their first album is really a gem. In fact, I'd say if you tasked ME with trying to recommend new music for olds, that album might just be ground zero. Later efforts seemed to completely abandon what was special about them, which was nonstop hooks and a sort of sunny melancholy. The big single, Girls, contains the lyric, "she can't be what you need if she's 17," which, provided you're older than 19 could be considered a universal truth. My point being, these guys were making music for olds before some of the olds were even that old!

Hey, thanks! Glad you're enjoying it. I fear they're a bit long and unwieldy, but as the old quote goes, I didn't have time to write a shorter letter.
LOVE Heilung! Once again NMFO is awesome.
Thank you! I will paint my face in ox blood in your honor.
Not to be high maintenance or anything but could you make it vegan? I’m trying something new for autumn.

Yeah, I guess I have to give them a deep dive, don't I? But on a cursory first listen, I think I like the more recent stuff better?
