I think what you’re describing is basically the new (‘90s-era) Bono -- ever-present, enthused, and kinda signifying nothing. And he’ll be all over the historical record on modern rock music, along with Henry Rollins and journalist David Fricke. I can’t hate his earnestness, because it does seem so genuine, but I also don’t really want any of whatever he’s selling.
Yeah, this seems right. Bono was more extreme, because he had TOTAL cultural ubiquity, whereas at least Grohl seems happy to confine his to rock music.
Truly they were amazing in person, and I will make an effort to see them live whenever I possibly can. (They did requests they picked out of a jar!? Is that their common gimmick like a real dive bar band!? So fun!) I brought a friend who had never heard of them, and we just kept looking at each other with our mouths open - they are amazing live performers, just super energetic talented singers! Thank you so much for introducing me to them!
Covers? Yes! Other takes on old favourites are very welcomed by these ears. I’ve got a Spotify playlist solely from covers and love it!
I don’t want to lean on them, but every once in a while is okay.
Yes! I agree! I came back here to comment that the Linger cover sent me down a girl group covers rabbit hole that I have enjoyed these past weeks!
My life has become a constant search for new rabbit holes. I ain't complaining.

Coming back here to say that I just saw a Lake Street Dive show after learning about them here. I love them - thank you!
I love that!! They kick ass live, I imagine. I’ve never seen the full band, but I did a live show once in which two of them sang Xmas carols.
