Wow. What a question. Would a list of the 25 best Wye Oak songs be better? Because I can do that.
But the safer, easier answer must be Civilian.
Are you aware that the drummer is also the keyboardist and that he plays both live at the same time? It seems like such old news at this point, but once in awhile I remember it and am astonished all over again.
Really liked all of these songs, but “Every Day Like the Last” was one of those where I clicked 'love' within the first three notes. I really enjoyed your MSG recaps and scoring - I feel very weird about how much I was rooting for Tears for Fears and was like amped? that they won...
Ok so full disclosure I usually read this for the jokes and skip the music (maybe as a way to avoid identifying as an "old"), but I finally went and listened to Youth Lagoon and wow thank you for the recommendation, for whatever weird reason this album is hitting me super hard right now. Thank you for the bonus Cure+Tears for Fears songs as I don't know any of their catalogs (see I'm not REALLY an old just oldish)
I was kind of disappointed that this new Wye Oak thing was just a compilation of the songs they've put out over the last few years, but now I see that strategy works! Even if it does rely on absent-minded clicking.
Cure b-sides are legendary but I'll give a shout out heh heh to Pharaohs, a TFF b-side that I adore even though it's just a shipping news report over a smoothed out version of Everybody Wants to Rule the World. There's also a b-side called The Big Chair featuring snippets from the movie Sybil that is very scary.
Oh yeah, there's that whole Saturnine whachamacallit compilation of b-sides and detritus. Some of it's good! But my suspicion is that people paying for TFF tix don't go anywhere near that stuff.
While I love seeing "Goodnight Song" placed so high, you didn't even rank my favorite Tears for Fears "Song" song: "Badman's Song" Oleta Adams's piano work is so wonderful, I sometimes wish for a spinoff band featuring the three of them (four if you count Pino Palladino.)

Glad you liked last week's tunes. It's funny, I feel the same way about TFF. They have a weird underdog quality that I get behind.

Hey man, read for whatever reasons make sense for you! But yeah, I'm always happy to turn someone on to something new. Thanks for giving a poop!

Yeah, I hadn't realized that until I was a few songs in. Which is the best Wye Oak album, in your opinion?
Lmao perfect description of Youth Lagoon's voice. Have you listened to Geese's new album yet? Interested in your thoughts on that one.
I've tried Geese a couple of times, but it didn't grab me. I shall try again!
Understandable, give this one a try if you haven't yet: https://open.spotify.com/track/1YtkxzDNmD4X0V56JiPgej?si=787d882ff05e4fa7

"an 8yo imitating his great-grandmother" is a hilarious and surprisingly accurate observation.
I call it like I hear it.

Badman's Song came in in the mid-30's I believe. I like the chorus!
