Excellent pull on tagging the Hard Quartet song as a forgotten Kinks b-side. Great work all around from another Old, and thankfully some other music nerd pointed out the Malkamus.
This made me laugh so much! Thank you. I really don’t think there is anything wrong with listening to new music from artists you have historically enjoyed as long as you are open to new ones too. It’s like saying you should only be reading new authors.
I have a difficult relationship with Pavement having not even heard of them before last year and really not enjoying the albums I’ve listened to since that point so I was about to scroll on by until you mentioned The Village Green Preservation Society which is one of my favourite albums. That was such a great observation and it’s a really good track so I’m going to give the rest of the album a try.
Also really enjoying Caroline Kingsbury. I’ve not come across her before so thanks for the recommendation.
Thanks so much for this thoughtful comment. Sorry it's taken me a couple days to get back.
Totally get it re Pavement. It's a very specific "thing" and if it's not for you, it's pretty irritating. It's like every song is being held together by loose rubber bands.
I grew up with the Kinks as the guys who did "Come Dancing", or maybe from hearing (and hating) "Lola" on classic rock radio. So it took me way too long to dig in. Like, my early 40s. I'm still pretty much limited to a couple of albums and various hits. But I could see myself falling down a deep Ray Davies hole one of these days.
I…may have confused Superdrag and Supergrass for the last 30 years or so. Anyway I like that John Davis song but, to my horror, found myself hitting the button for The Smile. I thought I was done with Thom Yorke! Also: On tenterhooks wondering what Christian’s thoughts are on the new Cure.
Re the Cure: Both singles are...fine. Not blown away. Sounds a bit like royalty-free Cure. I'm sure there will be some grerat stuff on the album, so I'll reserve judgment until then.
Since we are doing corrections today, I am compelled to say that "The Hard Quartet is comprised of members who..." is wrong. The correct usage is "The Hard Quartet comprises members who..."
(Also, this John Davis track is fucking great. Thanks for that!)

I've probably typed that dude's name a thousand times. And probably wrong, for the lion's share.
Thanks for the gracious words.

Oh, and yeah, Caroline Kingsbury is great. This one of my favorite songs from a few years ago.

Inner monologue bit had me hooked. You should do more interviews. Your inner monologue interviews Ian MacKay‘s subconscious, as a random example.
Hmmm, you may be onto something...

Don't forget Super Deluxe!

Is the Malkamus thing a bit?
Nope, just tired and lazy.
I'm so sorry I have to do this to/at you. One of these names is correct and the other is incorrect.
1) Stephen Malkmus
2) Steven Malkamus
I'm pretending you were playing "spot-the-music-nerd" with us and I was spotted.
It's part of a new series I'm starting called Choose Your Own Malkmus.
Also, I'm lazy and absent minded!

Yeah, my attention to detail is...lacking. I'm going to fire all five of my editors!
